What is Call to Action : Call to action or CTA is a banner, button or some kind of text or graphic on an internet site meant to prompt a user to click it & continue down a conversion funnel. It’s an important part of inbound marketing likewise as permission marketing in that it actively strives to convert a user into a lead & later into a client. The main goal of a CTA is a click or a scan in the case of a qr code. Its success can be measured via a conversion rate formula that calculates the amount of clicks over the times the CTA was seen.

Use active urgent language

A call to action should clearly tell users what you want them to do. They should include active words such as:

  • Call
  • Find
  • Get
  • Order 
  • Purchase
  • Review 
  • Shop
  • Buy
  • Register
  • Subscribe
  • Donate

All of these encourage users to take an action.

To create a sense of urgency and a need to act now, these words can be used alongside phrases such as:

  • Offer expires March 31st
  • For a short time only
  • Order now and receive a free gift

While the data shown is statistically significant, it should by no means be seen as comprehensive. Instead, the data and findings should be seen as a call to action in and of itself.

There are three key from this analysis that can help inform your future CTA strategies

1.     When analyzing CTAs, CTR is not the end-all, be-all. CTR and conversion rate are equally important. You need to consider both (multiplied together) to determine conversions per 1,000 impressions and the true effectiveness of a CTA.

2.     Test your own CTAs. While not shown in the analysis above, there were definitely differences in CTAs across the different categories. Recognize that some CTAs may work better than others for your category.

3.     CTAs can make an enormous difference to your campaign performance. The difference between a good CTA and a bad CTA can create as much as a hundred-fold difference in performance.
